Friday 17th June 2022 ADDING DATA SAVING CAPABILITY TO GAUGES THAT USE SERIAL PORTS Sencon's SX1000 Data-Bridge Software adds data logging functionality to gauges with only an RS232 serial interface Sencon's SI9100 Enamel Rater, SI9600 Coating Thickness Gauge, SC8880 Wet Film Weight Gauge, PG5600 Enamel Rater and the benchtop Buckle and Axial Load Benchmark™ gauges output data via the dependable and robust RS232 serial interface. This is perfect where you have an SPC system which supports RS232. However, if your SPC system can't receive and interpret serial data, or if you don't have an SPC system at all, then then your 'data saving' options are more limited. This is where Sencon's SX1000 Data-Bridge software comes in to play. × DIAGRAM 1: The SX1000 Data-Bridge can save data on a connected PC either as a single file with new reports simply appended to the log file with a new log file created at the start of each day, or as a batch where a new log file is created for each new batch report. The SX1000 Data-Bridge software can be installed onto any connected PC. It stores the logged data produced by the gauge as a .csv file, which can then be kept and used however you wish. Data can be logged from one or more gauge, only limited by the number of data ports on the Data-Bridge PC. The system typically comes pre-configured for a particular gauge, but users can add other gauges at any time via the software interface, then setting the appropriate communication parameters (port, baud rate, number of data bits and stop bits, parity type, and handshaking type) for each gauge. BACKUP DATA FOR YOUR SPC The SX1000 Data-Bridge can also be useful if your SPC goes down for any reason. If this happens, your gauges will continue to output data. Normally this data would be lost, but using Sencon's SX1000 Data-Bridge software to continually save the output from your gauges will allow you to bring your SPC quickly back up to date once it is back online – so no lost reporting data.
