When it comes to curing coatings, making sure your ovens are working reliably, precisely and efficiently is paramount. Sencon is meeting these challenges with the release of the SL4000, the upgraded version of our highly successful SL2000 oven logger. This advanced, rechargeable temperature monitoring device is designed specifically to meet the unique demands of can manufactures. Regular monitoring of curing/drying cycles is vital for maintaining energy efficiency and product quality in ovens. While air thermometers can provide a general temperature profile, they do not offer direct information about the temperatures on metal surfaces, such as cans moving through the oven. This lack of data can lead to either ‘overcooking’ coatings and wasting energy, or ‘undercooking' them by not curing coatings properly, both of which can be costly. The SL4000, like its predecessor, offers a precise picture of the temperature-over-time, providing detailed feedback on the curing/drying process. Enhanced Functionality The SL4000 seamlessly integrates with existing workflows and comes equipped with a range of features designed to optimize performance and ease-of-use. With a temperature range of up to 375ºC (707ºF) and a storage capacity of over 260,000 data points, the SL4000 offers unmatched data collection capabilities. Multiple triggering options are available and can be configured through the provided Hexagon™ analysis software. Options include: immediate; time delay; temperature threshold; or ‘manual mode’ with the onboard switch transitioning from ‘standby’ to ‘record’ as needed. No more dead batteries The SL4000 is equipped with a high-temperature, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that includes a 10-minute quick-charge feature, ensuring the logger is always ready for use. Now, operators no longer need to worry about replacing dead batteries or going through a reactivation process after battery replacement. Additionally, the onboard LED provides immediate feedback on the battery's charge status. Simplified data transfer The SL4000 comes with a USB PowerDock™ which further enhances its usability by streamlining data transfer, simplifying charging and assisting with cooling. The logger securely locates into the dock in the correct orientation with a reassuring magnetic pull-down ensuring a secure connection. This allows for easy transfer of oven data to the Hexagon™ analysis software without having to disconnect the thermal probes, making operation hassle-free. Additionally, the dock’s cooling fins help dissipate heat, protecting surroundings and prolonging the lifespan of the logger. Convenient on-site calibrations With its updated electronics, the new SL4000 oven temperature logger now offers on-site calibration, eliminating the need to return it to Sencon for calibration. During the annual service visit, the logger's readings will be compared to a reference standard, and a new calibration certificate will be issued if they align. If there is a discrepancy, the logger will need to be sent back to Sencon for full recalibration and adjustment. Sencon still recommends sending the logger back every three years for a full recalibration and performance validation. However, the benefits of on-site calibration are clear. The SL4000 oven temperature logger is calibrated to UKAS standards prior to shipment, and now stores its calibration data locally on the logger. This eliminates the need for external calibration files, streamlining the setup process and reducing the potential sources of error. Complete Eco-System The SL4000 is designed to work with a wide range of accessories, including the SmartPin™ for short and medium cycle pin ovens, SmartCan™ for IBO's and OBO’s, SmartSheet™ for sheet/wicket ovens and SmartSeam™ for side stripe ovens. Upgrading is simple as the new logger works with all existing SL2000 accessories. The included Peli™ case with custom foam insert provides safe and organized storage for the logger and its accessories, ensuring operators have easy access to the tools they need. POWERFUL HEXAGON™ SOFTWARE Hexagon™ software, which is supplied with Sencon's oven logging kits, enables comprehensive logger management and detailed analysis of the captured data. Different data channels and logging rates can be assigned to probe sets to log both air and product surface temperatures on metal packaging products during coatings curing cycles. Start and stop points for logging routines can be set, including predetermined delay, triggering by oven conditions, and logging in timed bursts. Data can be shown not just in standard temperature-over-time graphs, but also as temperature gradients for each burner, which is very useful for diagnosing oven performance and maintaining optimum energy usage. Operators can easily zoom in on detailed graphical views, allowing prompt and precise adjustments to be made. Intuitive Hexagon™ software makes the SL4000 Oven Logger a powerful tool for maximizing oven efficiency, foreseeing potential problems and implementing proactive maintenance, all of which protects product quality and prevents unplanned downtime as well as saving costly energy usage while also helping can makers meet important sustainability targets.
