Sunday 3rd December 2023 2 PROBE OR NOT 2 PROBE ... How many side wall probes should you have on a Front End Gauge? The question of how many side wall probes you should have on a Sencon Front End Gauge is simply down to what’s most important to you – speed or flexibility. A single side wall probe on a Front End (trimmed can) Gauge will give you ultimate flexibility, alowing you to measure at any point around the can. The downside is speed – single probe gauges are simply slower. A multi-probe gauge is faster because it measures two, fixed side wall points concurrently. But, by its very ‘fixed’ nature, it is less flexible. Sencon also offers a three probe version of the multi-probe. This also measures at two fixed points, while the third probe is flexible to allow measurement of a wider range of can heights, mitigating some of the inflexibility of the two position multi-probe. SINGLE, DUAL AND TRIPLE PROBE VERSIONS So, how many probes should you choose? It's just a compromise between speed and flexibility.
