The ULTP system reliably and repeatedly detects test cans with holes of less than 0.001 of an inch in diameter in the side-wall and holes of less than 0.002 inches in the dome area of the can. Light leakage in the flange area can also be detected.

As the ULTP light detector does not become less sensitive over time, adjusting the system sensitivity is not necessary. Typically, machine adjustments are only made during installation. This is in sharp contrast to standard electronics
which must be adjusted at least once per shift.

Lamp replacement and cleaning of the detector lens are the only scheduled maintenance tasks. The system uses six commercially available long life automotive headlamps and a quartz-halogen lamp.
