Sencon's unique Metal Discriminating Sensors are designed specifically for can-on-punch (short can) detection on DWI can bodymakers.

  • Sees The Can Not The Punch
  • Optimum Tooling & Machine Protection
  • Maximum Reliability, Minimum Down-time
  • Long Lasting Rugged Construction
  • Complete & Compatible

Sees The Can Not The Punch -These high efficiency units will detect each can yet remain totally blind to the punch. Tough, heavy-duty construction and special metal sensing face protection assures extraordinarily long life in the highly demanding bodymaker tool environment.

Optimum Tooling & Machine Protection - Using positive discrimination methods and 'zero-drift' detection, these sensors provide reliable detection of short cans or 'tear-offs' to protect your tooling investment.

Maximum Reliability, Minimum Down-time -Sencon Metal Discriminating Sensors employ special encapsulants, sealed cases and custom-fabricated metallic end plates to withstand hydraulic abrasion and provide maximum durability with long service life.

Long Lasting Rugged Construction - Sencon metal discriminating sensors are fully encapsulated in nonhygroscopic materials that are highly resistant to shock, vibration, coolant oils and humidity. They also employ custom-fabricated
titanium sensing face protection plates to withstand hydraulic abrasion and provide maximum durability in the demanding bodymaker tool environment.

Complete & Compatible - All 2xx Series sensors are equipped with both PNP and NPN outputs, and they are supplied complete with mounting nuts. The sensors optimize production output by significantly cutting bodymaker maintenance requirements.

Special Smart Sensor Systems

387 Series Smart Sensor Control Unit

387 series smart sensor
Control Module

Sencon's BCM387 Smart Sensor has a built in microprocessor that reads and stores the signal profile of each new punch fitted to the bodymaker. This sensor is used with its own control unit (BCM-387-WR) that interfaces directly with the press control system; it will then discriminate between an aluminium can and a range of punch materials, including ceramics and nickel based carbides. Nickel carbides are extremely difficult to discriminate from aluminium canstock because the electromagnetic signatures are very similar. So Sencon's BCM387 Smart Sensor is ideal this situation. It is set up for high speed clutch outputs and can be programmed for immediate or timed output control. This sensor can also be used in combination with the BCM500 module for more extensive body maker control functions. For more information on 387 sensors and BCM500 control see Body Maker Control Module

* These models are also available with an output pulse stretcher.
See Can on Mandrel and High Performance Sensors.

‡ These sensors perform reliably on the majority of known carbide
punches, provided the magnetic permeability of the punch material
remains stable in working conditions. Factors such as temperature
variation can affect magnetic properties.
