Bodymaker Control Module BCM500

bodymaker control module bcm500

Used in combination with Sencon's range of Short Can Sensors, the BCM500 module incorporates additional functions that support all of the fast control logic requirements of a bodymaker, including airstrip, dome jam and backstop. These functions are integrated with short can and tear-off detection to drive special high speed clutch outputs.

Sencon's BCM500 Module provides superb and reliable control
capabilities to any wall ironing bodymaker on a range of punch
materials, including ceramics and
nickel based carbides

  • Optimum Tooling protection
  • Fast machine stopping
  • Adaptable to different tooling types
  • Low cost, long service life
  • Improved Bodymaker performance

BCM 387 Smart Sensor Systems for Aluminium Cans

Nickel based carbides present a particular difficulty for sensors, because their electromagnetic signatures are similar to aluminium. Furthermore, the signature varies significantly with operating temperature and between individual punches. It can also vary between the body of the punch and the punch nose.

When the BCM500 is used with Sencon's BCM387 Short Can Sensor, its extensive bodymaker control functionality is combined with sophisticated discrimination of Aluminium cans from a range of punch materials, including ceramics and nickel based carbides. The 387 series sensors have an integral microcomputer and memory that reads and stores the signal profile of each new punch fitted to the bodymaker. Used together with the BCM500 control module, this built in learn facility adjusts to changes in tooling characteristics and operating temperatures.

NOTE: x-387-xx sensors are Smart Sensors for use with Aluminium cans

‡ These sensors perform reliably on the majority of known carbide
punches, provided the magnetic permeability of the punch material
remains stable in working conditions. Factors such as temperature
variation can affect magnetic properties.
